Frequently Asked Questions
The questions managers ask before engaging Fund-in-a-Box: what is included, how the staged launch runs, what happens once the fund is live, and how an all-in-one engagement compares with appointing separate providers.
1. What is Fund-in-a-Box?
Fund-in-a-Box is FundBase Group's full-service fund launch and administration solution for Australian fund managers. It brings every component required to establish and run an investment fund — formation, licensing and compliance, trustee services, investor onboarding, registry, administration, accounting and tax, and the technology platform — into one integrated engagement, rather than requiring managers to appoint and coordinate a provider for each function.
2. What's included in Fund-in-a-Box?
Seven core components are included as standard: fund formation and documentation; licensing and compliance; trustee services; investor onboarding with AML/KYC; fund administration and registry; fund accounting and tax; and access to FundBase Group's proprietary technology platform. Together, these cover everything needed to launch an investment fund and operate it day to day under one integrated model.
3. How long does a Fund-in-a-Box launch take, stage by stage?
A typical launch runs four to six weeks across four stages. Weeks 1–2 cover discovery and scoping, mapping services to the fund's structure and strategy. Weeks 2–3 cover compliance and AFSL, including CAR appointment. Weeks 2–4 cover fund formation, with structuring, documentation and trustee services establishment and investor onboarding configuration. From week 4 the fund goes live, with administration, accounting and governance operating from day one.
4. Why is Fund-in-a-Box faster than a traditional fund launch?
Traditional launches run sequentially — structure, then licensing, then provider appointments, then systems — with each step waiting on the last and handoffs between separate firms adding delay. Fund-in-a-Box runs formation, trustee, compliance and onboarding workstreams in parallel under one operating partner, which removes the coordination lag rather than compressing the underlying work.
5. Is AFSL coverage included in Fund-in-a-Box?
Yes. Licensing is one of the seven included components. Managers are appointed as a Corporate Authorised Representative under FundBase Group's AFSL during the launch, alongside compliance framework setup, so licensing runs in parallel with formation rather than gating it. No separate licence application is required before the fund can launch.
6. What happens after the fund launches?
Launch is the start of the engagement, not the end of it. From go-live, FundBase Group continues to operate the fund's back office — administration and accounting, NAV and unit pricing, registry, investor communications, compliance operations, and regulatory and tax reporting. There is no handover to a separate operator or a second provider appointment after launch.
7. Is Fund-in-a-Box only for first-time managers?
No, and the two groups use it differently. Managers launching a first fund use it to reach institutional-grade operations without building a back office or waiting on a licence. Established managers use it to stand up an additional vehicle quickly without expanding internal operations headcount, or to consolidate a fund that is currently spread across several providers.
8. How does Fund-in-a-Box compare to appointing separate providers?
A conventional structure requires separate appointments for trustee, administration, registry, compliance and licensing — five or more contracts, each with its own onboarding, systems and reporting cycle, and no single party accountable for the whole. Fund-in-a-Box consolidates these into one operating partner on one integrated platform, which shortens launch timelines, removes the reconciliation and coordination overhead between providers, reduces cost and gives the manager a single point of accountability for fund operations.
